What is Delta-8 THC?

A new type of product has hit the Ontario cannabis market called Delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Delta-8 THC is one of over 100 cannabinoids found in cannabis and hemp plants. Delta-8 is found in only trace amounts and the products are typically manufactured from hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD).

The chemical structure of both Delta-8 and Delta-9 contains a double bond that is said to produce the intoxicating effect that makes you feel high. The two THC cannabinoids differ in the placement of the double bond. Though the effects of Delta-8 tend to be much milder, one can still expect common symptoms of euphoria, happiness, relaxation and more.

The high from Delta-8 is said to last just as long as a regular high. Smoking flower or vaping can last an hour or more and edibles can last a few hours. Like Delta-9, the side effects of Delta-8 may include munchies, red eye, dry mouth, short-term memory loss, anxiety and paranoia. Consumers who find Delta-9 THC products too overwhelming may prefer Delta-8.

More research needs to be done on the impacts of Delta-8 on the human body, but for now, it has shown potential to help with:

nausea
-pain relief
-insomnia
-anxiety

Currently, you can find Delta-8 in the form of an oil, edible, and vape cartridge. While many people will find Delta-8 to be milder, it will depend on your unique body chemistry. Just like when trying any new product, always start low and go slow. Remember, edibles can take up to 4 hours to hit you.

Always enjoy responsibly, BUDS!
