Our 4 Favourite Stoner Movies

A classic stoner movie will contain common elements. Usually, a theme revolving around cannabis, cannabis consumption, some sort of wacky scheme to fix a problem, pop-culture references and some aspect of cannabis culture. A good stoner-flick will have you laughing, not only the first time you watch it, but time and time again. They are a classic “go-to”, for a lowkey night with your buds that are easy to watch and highly entertaining.

Mac and Devin Go to High School (2012)

The story of two high-school students, over-achiever Devin Overstreet (Wiz Khalifa) who tries to help15th year Mac Johnson (Snoop Dogg) graduate school, but ends up getting introduced to cannabis. The boys attend N.Hale high-school, which is a reference to Nate Dogg’s real name, Nathan Hale and is also a play on the word “inhale.” The opposing worlds of Mac and Devin collide in a “high-larious” tale that will keep you laughing time and time again.

Friday (1995)

Craig Jones (Ice Cube) and Smokey (Chris Tucker) find themselves in trouble when they owe money to a local drug dealer. “Friday” is the first of a four-movie installment. The film also stars Bernie Mac, Nia Long, Tiny “Zeus” Lister Jr., John Witherspoon, Regina King, and Anna Maria Horsford. The initial film is followed by “Next Friday”, “Friday After Next” and finally, “Last Friday”.

How High (2001)

In this stoner classic, Method Man and Redman are visited by a ghost of their deceased friend after accidentally smoking his ashes. The ghost helps them to pass their exams and get into Harvard University. The movie is followed by a sequel entitled “Too High”

Cheech & Chong Up In Smoke (1978)

“Up In Smoke”, is the first feature film from the 70’s comedy duo, Cheech & Chong. The film follows two stoners as they unknowingly steal a van made entirely of marijuana. At the time of its release, the movie received a lot of negative reviews, but today it is credited to have started the whole stoner movie genre.
