Cannabis Consumption in Ontario

Cannabis laws are very confusing! Not only do we have provincial laws to adhere to, but we also have to consider the bylaws created in each region we live in. Here are the currently listed by-law requirements:

Smoking Allowed in Ontario
-Private Residences
-Many outdoor public places (ie; sidewalks, parks)
-Residential vehicles/ boats (must be parked/ anchored)

Smoking Prohibited in Ontario
-At school, on school playgrounds or within 20 meters of these grounds
-On children’s playgrounds or within 20 meters of these grounds
-In places where childcare is provided, even if the children aren’t present

-Private residences

Smoking Prohibited
-Any public parks 

Niagara 

Smoking Allowed
-Private residences

Smoking Prohibited
-Beaches
-Recreation trails
-Parks, playgrounds and sports fields
-Arenas
-Outdoor areas of municipal and regional buildings

Brampton

Smoking Allowed
-Private Residences

Smoking Prohibited
-Within 20 meters of children’s playgrounds
-Publicly owned sports fields and surfaces
-Entrances/exits to municipal buildings

Brantford

Smoking Allowed
-Private Residences

Smoking Prohibited
-City-owned recreation centres and sports facilities
-City-owned administrative buildings, including parking lots
-Sidewalks or city building property within a park
-Trails

Region of Durham (Pickering)

*Same as Ontario

Rutherglen (Bonfield)
