Spring Terpenes

Ahhhhhh…Spring is in the air; birds chirping and flowers blooming! Of course, with flowers come those sweet spring and summer scents that fill us up with joy. Have you ever wondered where those smells come from? The answer is terpenes. Yes, that’s right the same phytochemicals found in cannabis can also be found in flowers right in your garden.

Let’s take a look at a few of the more popular ones:

Linalool

Linalool is most commonly found in lavender. It has a beautiful floral scent that is often accompanied by a hint of spice. Linalool has been noted to have relaxing and sedative effects. Imagine having a nice cup of lavender tea before slipping into sleep. Along with cannabis, you can also find linalool in cinnamon, laurel, birch, rosewood, and even fungi.

Cannabis strains high in linalool include Lavender, LA Confidential, Amnesia Haze, Do-Si-Dos, Dark Matter OG and Zkittlez.

Bisabolol

Sweet and floral, the bisabolol terpene is reminiscent of honey, apples and chamomile tea. Bisabolol has been studied for a wide range of benefits including antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and wound healing properties. Bisabolol can also be found in chamomile, Candeia tree, and sage.

Cannabis strains high in bisabolol include Master Kush, Jasmine, Cotton Candy Kush, and Moonshine Haze.

Geraniol

You’re probably not surprised to hear that geraniol can be found in geraniums. It’s that lovely rose and citrus scent you pick up. Some of the health benefits that are being studied include anti-inflammatory, neuroprotectant, antibacterial, and antifungal properties. Roses, citronella, thyme, lemon, basil and coriander are all plants that express geraniol.

Cannabis strains high in geraniol include Purple Punch, Agent Orange, Strawberry Diesel, Black Cherry Soda, Harlequin and Lemon G.

Nerolidol

Nerolidol has a woody scent; reminiscent of fresh bark. You can find this terpene in lavender, lemongrass, ginger, jasmine and neroli. It is currently being studied for its anti-anxiety, sedative, antimicrobial and pain-relieving benefits.

Cannabis strains high in nerolidol include Jack Herer, Skywalker OG, Afghan Moon, White Fire, GG4 and Shiskaberry.

Terpineol

Terpineol has a very pleasant scent that is most similar to that of lilacs. It is often used in perfumes or household cleaning products. Potential health benefits of terpineol include antioxidant, antiulcer, anticonvulsant, anticancer, and antihypertensive. In nature, you can find terpineol in many plants such as linden flowers, pine trees, tea tree, lilacs and bitter orange.

Cannabis strains high in terpineol include Blue Dream, Jack Herer, Girl Scout Cookies, White Widow, OG Kush, Fire OG and Jack Flash.
